چکیده

Debris flow hazard and risk assessments are critical tools in mitigating planning for these events. Existing debris can provide a rapid view of the likelihood flows recently burned watersheds along stream segments within watershed. Furthermore, volumes be predicted segments. Advances modeling remote-sensing data add further value to assessments. Here, modeled more detailed understanding rainfall conditions highlight need reconcile probabilities using local conditions. Modeled consistently lower than even lowest from empirical models used Watershed probability volume relations also over predict based on our derived intensity Multi-Radar/Multi-Sensor System 1-hr data. Probability measures considered as conservative have implication analyses required management decisions, ultimately design cost mitigation manage risk.

Assessing Debris Flow Hazard by Credal Nets

Debris flows are among the most dangerous and destructive natural hazards that affect human life, buildings, and infrastructures. Starting from the ’70s, significant scientific and engineering advances in the understanding of the processes have been achieved [4, 7]. Yet, human expertise is still fundamental for hazard identification, as many aspects of the whole process are poorly understood; a...

Landslide and Debris Flow Characteristics during Extreme Rainfall in Taiwan

As the global climate changes, the threat from landslides and debris flows increases. Learning how a watershed initiates landslides under abnormal rainfall conditions and predicting landslide magnitude and frequency distribution is thus important. Landslides show a power-law distribution in the frequency-area distribution. The distribution curve shows an exponent gradient 1.0 in the Sandpile mo...

Instrumental record of debris flow initiation during natural rainfall: Implications for modeling slope stability

[1] The middle of a hillslope hollow in the Oregon Coast Range failed and mobilized as a debris flow during heavy rainfall in November 1996. Automated pressure transducers recorded high spatial variability of pore water pressure within the area that mobilized as a debris flow, which initiated where local upward flow from bedrock developed into overlying colluvium. Postfailure observations of th...

An example of debris-flows hazard modeling using GIS

We present a GIS-based model for predicting debris-flows occurrence. The availability of two different digital datasets and the use of a Digital Elevation Model (at a given scale) have greatly enhanced our ability to quantify and to analyse the topography in relation to debris-flows. In particular, analysing the relationship between debris-flows and the various causative factors provides new un...

Relations between rainfall and triggering of debris-flow: case study of Cancia (Dolomites, Northeastern Italy)

Debris-flows occurring in the area of Cancia (Dolomites, Northeastern Italy) in recent years have exposed the population to serious risk. In response to the recurring hazard, an alarm and monitoring system was installed to provide a sufficient level of safeguard for inhabitants and infrastructures. The data recorded at three rain gauges during debris-flow events has been analysed, taking into c...
